What is Sciencepalooza?
It is a FREE PTA sponsored event coordinated by a team of Lewis parent volunteers. The event features a STEAM approach which emphasizes collaboration across ART and STEM fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Sciencepalooza celebrates a wide variety of the sciences and inspires curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through demonstrations and interactive hands-on activities facilitated by community volunteers: teachers, students, and professionals working in STEAM fields.
Activity topics range from engineering design challenges, neuroscience (brains!), watershed science, salmon lifecycle, reptiles and infrared tech, robotics, ocean science, and more. For younger and pre-K attendees, there will be tables featuring open exploration opportunities. All ages welcome!
Activity stations will be located in multiple rooms throughout the school: the gym, cafeteria, a classroom, and upper grade hallway.
Sounds fun! When is Sciencepalooza taking place at Lewis?
6:00 – 8:00 pm on Friday, January 31st, 2020.
Last year’s inaugural event was a success; 15 science groups facilitated demonstrations and hands-on activities, many of which involved art and opportunity for creative problem solving. The non-profit neuroscience group NWNoggin blogged about their experience presenting their activities at our event:
